Dead Alphabet
Dead Alphabet is a gritty garage rock band whose massive sound is just getting bigger and better with every step. Their latest release, The Kill (2010) moves effortlessly between songs that trace the eclectic strokes of various musical styles and textures. From the hard rock fury and thundering guitar riffs of Eastern Glow to the dark calm and cattle prodding Western textures of The Kill, the gospel choir chanting and rhythmical sledge-hammering of High on Fire to the garage rock rioting of Eat you Alive this release demands to be listened to, over and over again... This EP is a statement of intent, an insight into what the band are capable of achieving in the studio. Each song has been carefully crafted under the guidance of producer Matthew Klawansky, who had this to say about the production process: “A lot of work went into experimenting with the layering of percussive instruments and vocal harmonies. During recording we could relax, have fun and experiment because of the large amount of work that went into streamlining the songs before we hit the production stages."
Dead Alphabet are from Joburg and its members have been playing together in various bands for a number of years. This has developed a group of musicians who are completely in tune with each other creatively and musically. Dead Alphabet has proved its live energy countless times over the last two years - with the energetic opening of OPPIKOPPI 2009, support shows alongside European bands Voisct and Balthazar as well as playing alongside fellow South African groups such as The Shadow Club, Zebra and Giraffe and Fokofpolisiekar.
The group is Adam Edwards, on Lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Phil Klawansky on Lead guitar, Justin Gent on drums and Hugh Hunt on bass.

Lou Roux
It was after slapping a bass guitar while standing in front of an 8x8 amplifier that Louis realised he had found his weapon of choice. Unsuspecting to him, this moment was the catalyst that would usher him closer towards developing his musical revolution. Through playing bass an instant attraction to funk developed, bringing him one step closer to the birth of LEFF (Live-Elctro-Funk-Fusion)... More »
After playing in a band for most of his teenage years, Louis began experimenting with a loop station and expanded his understanding of composition and song writing. Spending countless hours playing and writing, he became intrigued with electronica, dance music and all things rythmic. This sparked an infatuation with technology and sound design and in turn led him to build his own studio.
Louis really began his musical revolution in 2006 as co-creator of an electronic performance outfit called Future Records. This Johannesburg based production house set out to create, produce and perform its own flavour of music, using both live and technical elements fused together to create a fluid sound encouraging movement from onlookers. It is out of this project and through collaborations with many talented and unique artists that LEFF was born.
Louis Roux, or 'Lou' as his friends know him, decided to go solo in mid 2008. Using his experience across his musical career and drawing together his inspiration from a variety of artists across musical genres such as Jamiroquai, Daft Punk and Trente Moller, to name a few, he has spent the last 18 months collaborating with talented artists across the field to produce tracks that he is proud to attach his name to, and is finally ready to debut his sound to the world, as LouRoux.
The sound, put simply: Funk based electronica, fused with complimentary styles of music. The word fusion stemming from a deeper love and desire to combine different styles of music and production techniques. Louis not only mixes his tracks live but is able to produce them live combining elements of house, electronica, funk, and jazz, with which he successfully fuses modern production and performance techniques with the raw sound of real instruments, and mind blowing sound design. This unique combination lends itself to an energetic performance, and introduces its audience to new exciting sounds and creative ideas, propelling them forward, both visually and aurally.
Using a laptop, high performance DJ mixer, a sampler, midi controllers, synthesizer and live bass guitar, Lou calculatingly and with what can only be described as pin point precision, tweaks, twists and turns the music inside out
